Servers and Locations

A VPN, or virtual private network, is a service that creates a secure, encrypted connection between your device and the VPN server. This connection encrypts all of the data sent and received between your device and the VPN server, ensuring that your data is safe from prying eyes. This makes it ideal for use when connecting to public Wi-Fi networks, as it helps to keep your data safe from hackers. Ivacy has over 5700 servers, spread around the world in 100+ locations, specifically in the Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific and Africa, such services are usually undermined or underprovided in regions like Africa and East Asia, but in this case, Ivacy’s got every region covered. The service provider also has servers in more than 66 countries.

Speed Test

Ivacy VPN may reduce your internet speeds due to the encryption process. However, this is to some, a small price to pay for the added security and privacy that Ivacy VPN provides. We studied download, upload and ping speeds for 72 countries across the Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific and Africa. Upload and download speeds were measured in Mbps., while ping speed was measured in milliseconds (ms). We also measured our internet speed without the VPN to compare it to test data.

Download Speed

Out of the 72 countries, we tested 10 countries in the Americas, 33 in Europe, and 29 in Asia Pacific and Africa as shown in the table below.

Ivacy VPN Regional Comparison of Download Speed

Header Label Americas Europe Asia Pacific and Africa
Number of Tested Countries 10 33 29
Average Download Speed 19.88 Mbps 7.2 Mbps 17.99 Mbps
Lowest Download Speed 0.68 Mbps (Panama) 0.6 Mbps (Austria) 1.14 Mbps (Philippines)
Highest Download Speed 77.93 Mbps (Chile) 86.05 Mbps (Moldova) 98.91 Mbps (Hong Kong)
No VPN 123.65 Mbps 123.65 Mbps 123.65 Mbps

The best average download speed among all regions is in the Americas, with 19.88 Mbps speed. Europe was on the other hand worst, with only 7.2 Mbps speed. All average values were way below download speed without a VPN connection, which is 123.65 Mbps. This speed, if sufficient for some users, will be a drawback feature for many others.

Ivacy VPN Download Speed

Header Label Country Download
Fastest Hong Kong 98.91 Mbps
Slowest Austria 0.6 Mbps
Overall All Tested Countries 15.02 Mbps
No VPN Connected 123.65 Mbps

Hong Kong had the fastest download speed of 98.91 Mbps, while the slowest speed was recorded in Austria with just 0.6 Mbps. Although Hong Kong was relatively close to the speed without a VPN connection, most downloads deviated much further, and were often slow. The overall average of all tested countries was for instance 15.02, also a low speed.

Upload Speed

We also tested the upload speed, which is usually slower than the download speed, for the same number of countries with the same number of test distribution as with download speed, and conducted tests without VPN usage. It is also measured in Mbps.

Ivacy VPN Regional Comparison of Upload Speed

Header Label Americas Europe Asia Pacific and Africa
Number of Tested Countries 10 33 29
Average Upload Speed 4.97 Mbps 6.36 Mbps 5.95 Mbps
Lowest Upload Speed 1.37 Mbps (Costa Rica) 1.58 Mbps (Romania) 1.52 Mbps (Philippines)
Highest Upload Speed 6.93 Mbps (Chile) 24.63 Mbps (Denmark) 20.53 Mbps (Hong Kong)
No VPN 41.43 Mbps 41.43 Mbps 41.43 Mbps

The average upload speed for the Americas was the slowest of 4.97 Mbps, for Europe it was the highest with 6.36 Mbps, and for Asia Pacific and Africa it was 5.95 Mbps. All of which are much lower than the upload speed without a VPN connection of 41.43 Mbps.

Ivacy VPN Upload Speed

Header Label Country Upload
Fastest Denmark 24.63 Mbps
Slowest Costa Rica 1.37 Mbps
Overall All Tested Countries 5.76 Mbps
No VPN Connected 41.43 Mbps

The fastest upload speed among all countries was 24.63 Mbps in Denmark, slightly higher than half of the upload speed with no VPN usage. The average upload speed as a result of all our upload tests throughout the globe was only 5.76 Mbps, which is very deviant from the speed without a VPN of 41.43 Mbps.

Ping

Ping is an important tool for measuring the quality of a VPN provider. By pinging different servers, you can get a sense for how quickly packets are being sent and received. This can help you determine which providers offer the best performance. Additionally, ping tests can help you identify issues with your connection and resolve them. It is measured in milliseconds (ms). A VPN usually increases ping speed, however, the lower the ping speed, the better. And being geographically closer to a server is essential to maintaining a low ping speed.

Ivacy VPN Regional Comparison of Ping Speed

Header Label Americas Europe Asia Pacific and Africa
Number of Tested Countries 10 33 29
Average Ping Speed 317.12 ms 227.71 ms 177.6 ms
Fastest Ping Speed 175 ms (United States) 196 ms (Italy) 19 ms (Hong Kong)
Slowest Ping Speed 524 ms (Costa Rica) 330 ms (Austria) 416 ms (Vietnam)
No VPN 19 ms 19 ms 19 ms

The average ping speed for the Americas was 317.12 ms, which is the slowest regional speed. For Europe it was 227.71 ms, and for Asia Pacific and Africa it was 177.6 ms, the fastest regional average speed. However, still the results are highly deviant from the no VPN usage result, which is as fast as 19 ms.

Ivacy VPN Ping Speed

Header Label Country Ping
Fastest Hong Kong 19 ms
Slowest Costa Rica 524 ms
Overall All Tested Countries 240.81 ms
No VPN Connected 19 ms

Hong Kong once more has the best ping speed among all tested countries, which is exactly equal to the ping speed without a VPN connection, both of which are 19 ms. The average ping speed as a result of all our ping tests all over the world was 240.81 ms, which is much slower than when no VPN is connected, yet much sharper than the slowest ping speed of 524 ms, in Costa Rica.

DNS Leak Test

Ivacy VPN is one of the most secure VPNs available, providing users with military-grade encryption and protection. Ivacy VPN’s security features include a kill switch, which automatically kills your internet connection if the VPN connection drops, and a split tunnelling feature, which allows you to choose which apps use the VPN connection and which apps use your regular internet connection. This ensures that your data is always safe, even if the VPN connection drops.

Ivacy VPN also offers a number of other security features, including an automatic malware blocker and a DNS leak protection feature. These features help to keep your data safe from online threats.

Streaming

VPNs can be used to access region-locked content. For example, if you are travelling outside of the United States and want to watch US Netflix, you can use a VPN to connect to a US server and then stream content as if you were in the US. This is a great way to access all of the content that is available on Netflix or other streaming platforms, regardless of your location.

With Ivacy’s dedicated IP address VPN, your reputation remains intact as the IP is always under your usage and control. So, with a private IP, you are in total control of your reputation online. Ivacy VPN has a variety of streaming platforms that can be unblocked easily from abroad, including Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, BBC iPlayer, and more. We tested the VPN for Netflix library streaming in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan and South Korea, however, it only worked in Japan with 1080p streaming quality, enough to watch Ultra HD (4K) with a good internet speed. In addition, the streaming buffer was only 8 seconds, which is extremely efficient.

Netflix

Netflix has always been a great platform for streaming movies and TV shows. But with the advent of Ivacy VPN, it has become even better. Ivacy VPN allows you to unblock Netflix and watch all its content from anywhere in the world, however, not all Netflix libraries can be accessed. Ivacy VPN is also great for unblocking other popular streaming platforms like Hulu, BBC iPlayer, and Amazon Prime. It allows you to access all their content from anywhere.

In the table below, we present our results after testing Netflix streaming on Library, Streaming Buffer, and Streaming Quality. We selected four countries.

Netflix Streaming in Different Regions

Header Label Ivacy VPN – Library Ivacy VPN – Streaming Buffer Ivacy VPN – Streaming Quality

United States No
Europe
United Kingdom No
Asia Pacific
Japan Yes 8 1080p
South Korea No

We successfully unblocked the Japanese library, while the US, UK and South Korea were blocked.

Torrenting

Torrenting is one of the most popular ways to share files online. It allows users to share large files quickly and easily, without having to go through a centralized server. This makes torrenting an important tool for sharing large files, especially when compared to traditional file-sharing methods like FTP or HTTP. Thus, torrenting with a VPN is essential.

Torrenting also has a number of other benefits. First, it is a very secure way to share files, as torrenting clients use encryption to protect your data. Second, torrenting can be used to bypass censorship and access blocked content. Finally, torrenting is a great way to share large files with friends and family. Ivacy VPN takes all that into consideration, which is why it provides strong and necessary features like a VPN kill switch.

Torrenting – BitTorrent

We used BitTorrent to download a file with the size was 3.5 GB, which had a download speed of 55.6 kb/s with 0.652 seeders. Thus, the download time was 17h 4m, which is extremely disappointing given that the industry average time is only 11 minutes. This data is demonstrated in the table below.

Ivacy VPN BitTorrent Test in Comparison with Other VPNs

Header Label File Size Seeders Download Speed Time
Ivacy VPN 3.5 GB 0.652 55.6 kB/s 17h 4m
Other VPNs 1.85 GB 0.878 2.1 Mbps 11 min

Torrenting – uTorrent

This test was performed under the same conditions, using the same file size to determine the VPN performance. The downloaded file size was again 3.5 GB, with 0.44 seeders. The download speed was limited to 26.2 kB/s, completed within 1d and 18h. This result was even more disappointing, given the industry average of 22min.

Header Label File Size Seeders Download Speed Time
Ivacy VPN 3.5 GB 0.44 26.2 kB/s 1d 18h
Other VPNs 1.85 GB 0.219 2.1 Mbps 22 min

The best part is that you can connect up to 10 devices simultaneously on a single account.

Ivacy VPN is also one of the few providers that offer a split tunnelling feature. This allows you to choose which traffic goes through the VPN and which traffic goes through your ISP. This is a great feature for those who want to use Ivacy VPN for streaming or gaming while still keeping their regular browsing activities private. Ivacy VPN also offers a wide range of servers located in over 100 countries. You can connect to any of these servers to access blocked content and websites.

Router Manually Setup for Ivacy VPN

Ivacy VPN can work on a variety of VPN supported routers as discussed earlier. In this case particularly, such routers must support PPTP, OpenVPN TCP, and OpenVPN UDP protocols. The steps for manual configuration are as follows:

TV

Ivacy VPN is compatible with TVs that run an Android operating system, however, by using other methods, we can access other streaming devices. For instance, if the Smart TV has its own operating system, users can first configure the VPN on a router, or use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on Windows. To configure your VPN manually on Android, refer to the official site for guidelines.

In either case, users will have access to different streaming services such as Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, Hulu, UFC on Kodi, BBC iPlayer, and Netflix from a number of countries.

China

Ivacy VPN works well in China, since the service is effortlessly trying to extend their service there with as little monitoring as possible. Ivacy VPN help users bypass the country’s censorship and access all of the content they want. China has some of the most restrictive internet laws in the world, and as such, it can be difficult to access certain websites and services. However, with Ivacy VPN, you can connect to a Chinese server and access all of the content that is blocked in China. This includes websites like Facebook, Google, and Twitter, as well as streaming services like Netflix and Hulu.

Ivacy VPN provides a 24/7 online customer support service, and allows inquiries through email. We contacted customer support and were able to connect to an agent within 10 seconds. The reply speed was 5 seconds, yet the quality of answers was not great. In fact, it was bad because we needed email to be able to cancel the payment.
