The official site says it’s enough, but it is essentially smaller than the industry average.

Speed tests

As a rule, any VPN decreases both upload and download speed due to the presence of an intermediate link between the user and the site.

Download speed

Here we provide data on 19 countries from 226. It is just 8.4%. The test results of downloads are presented below.

We managed to test a very limited number of countries. There were only 2 countries from the Americas (the USA and Canada) and only 3 countries (Australia, Japan, and Singapore) for the Asia Pacific. Probably, this low number of countries means that such a low number of servers is not enough.

The average download speed ranged a lot for different countries. It was 118.41 Mbps for the Americas, 70.7 Mbps for Europe, and 26 Mbps for the Asia Pacific. They differed 4.55 times.

The data for countries ranged essentially too. Here we provide the min/max data, including countries:

  • 90.3 (Canada)/166.22 (USA) Mbps for the Americas;
  • 1.85 (Romania)/154.7 (Finland) Mbps for Europe;
  • 8.65 (Singapore)/59.86 (Australia) Mbps for the Asia Pacific.

Ping out speed

Users of the World Wide Web have heard the word “ping” at least once in their lives. Ping means checking the Internet channel for speed. More advanced users know that ping is the response speed at which the device signal reaches another user and returns. This takes milliseconds.

DNS Leak Test

Internet ping directly affects connection speed. Thus, one of the methods of diagnosing the quality of the connection to the World Wide Web is to check the ping. If it turns out that this problem is this parameter, users are trying to reduce the ping in every way.

Streaming

The official site claims that OVPN unblocks the following streaming platforms: Netflix in the USA, Disney+ in the USA, Hulu in the USA, Netflix in Germany, Netflix in Sweden, C More, TV4 Play, SVT Play, Viaplay, HBO Nordic, SF Anytime, YLE Areena.

We carried out our test to check it. Unfortunately, we did not manage to unblock Netflix.

Torrenting

There are many torrents in different languages, but they work on one BitTorrent protocol. The principle of operation is that files are transferred directly from user to user, bypassing the server. As you have already understood, a torrent is a very complex system of information transfer. For example, if a person downloads a file, in a couple of hours this information will spread to thousands of computers.

BitTorrent with OVPN

To test OVPN, we completed a file of 3.5 GB. We considered the number of seeders, speed, and time. The table below presents the test results.

BitTorrent with OVPN

Header LabelFile sizeSeedersDownload SpeedTime
OVPN3.5 GB0.8251.7 MB/s37 min 35 s
Other VPNs1.85 GB0.8782.1 Mbps11 min

The observed speed was close to the industry average. They were 1.7 Mb/s and 2.1 Mb/s respectively. So, the time was close too. The industry average was 11 min for a file of 1.85 GB compared to the obtained time of 37 min 35 s (1.55 times more) for the file twice bigger.

uTorrent with OVPN

To test OVPN, we completed a file of 3.5 GB. This file has the same size to provide equal conditions. We considered the same options (the number of seeders, speed, and time). The table below presents the test results.
