Servers and Locations

StrongVPN offers PPTP, L2TP, OpenVPN, and IPSec protocols to users and is headquartered in the US. In addition, over 950 servers in 30 countries are available. It is low than the industry average, therefore this VPN provides low speeds. They offer their own DNS servers, so you don’t have to worry about your data being passed through third-party servers. In addition, they do not store any connection data, including your IP address, sites, and session duration – all this information is not recorded.

Speed tests

Here we considered two main options – upload and download speeds. The obtained data both for download and upload speeds were very scattered.

The download speed affects how quickly sites open and files are downloaded from the Internet. The upload speed is used when transferring data from your computer to the Internet (for example, when uploading photos or files to the cloud).

Download speed test

We tested 226 countries worldwide but managed to obtain test results for only 42. It is 18.55%. The test results of downloads are presented below.

DNS Leak Test

DNS leaks can pose a threat to your online privacy. The sooner you learn about them, the more chances you have to prevent them. A leak is when DNS requests are sent outside of an encrypted VPN tunnel, or when requests are sent to bypass or ignore the VPN server.

Torrenting

When downloading a movie using a torrent, you download it from the computers of other users who downloaded it to the computer earlier. At the same time, you also become a distributor—i.e. if another user decides to download the same file using a torrent, then he can get some parts, including from your computer.

Here is the way to measure the speed of your internet channel by downloading a large file. Start downloading a large file from the Internet to your computer and measure the time it will take to download this file.

BitTorrent with Strong VPN

To test this VPN, we completed a file of 3.5 GB. We considered the number of seeders, speed, and time. The table below presents the test results.

BitTorrent with Strong VPN

Header LabelFile sizeSeedersDownload SpeedTime
Strong VPN3.5 GB0.5527.8 kBps2 h 16 min
Other VPNs1.85 GB0.8782.1 Mbps11 min

The observed speed essentially exceeded the industry average. It took 2 h 16 min via app.22 min ( 6.2 times more) to download this file.

uTorrent with Strong VPN

To test this VPN, we completed a file of 3.5 GB. This file has the same size to provide equal conditions. We considered the same options (the number of seeders, speed, and time). The table below presents the test results.

uTorrent with Strong VPN

Header LabelFile sizeSeedersDownload SpeedTime
Strong VPN3.5 GB0.3883.4 kBps15 h 1 min
Other VPNs1.85 GB0.2192.1 Mbps22 min

The observed speed was too slow. It was only 83.4 kBps, and we needed 15 h 1 min to download the file of 3.5 GB.
